For four decades the mission focus of Global Ministry Teams (GMT) has been to plant churches and meet the human needs of people, while sharing the message and power of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
Through partnerships established all over the world we train leaders, impact nations, and develop social relief programs among some of the world’s most restricted-access nations. With a presence in the continents of Africa, Australia, America, South East Asia, Europe and the Middle East, GMT continues to fulfill its main objective to mobilize, train and release this generation to share the Gospel with those who have never heard.
History of GMT….
GMT began in the heart of Irvin and Linda Rutherford who saw the need for others to answer the call of the Great Commission.
“Our vision was to recruit 100 long-term workers before we reached 65 years of age”. This was the simple desire that created the Global Ministry Teams network and facilitating mission it has become. Starting under the covering of Asian Teen Challenge, Asian Ministry Teams was to be the missions arm of Teen Challenge that the Rutherford’s established in Vietnam, Singapore, Indonesia and Malaysia.
Using the social ministry of TEEN CHALLENGE as a platform, Irvin, Linda and Lilian Tan, a dedicated Singaporean, began with the short-term teams and since then has used the statement: “short-term teams lead to internships and then to career missionaries.”
The main vision that motivated Irvin and Linda was that a new generation should be empowered and the baton of missionary service passed on. This is being done with Global EvangelismTraining (GET), the equipping arm of GMT based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Led by a younger generation of workers, GMT is poised to be part of the final global harvest of souls using enlisting, empowering and educating to place the next generation of Kingdom workers for Christ’s glory in the nations.
